What our database is all about

The interactive database of resource persons has been created to respond to a serious gap in knowledge and understanding of the human rights-based approach (HRBA). It is a pool of resource persons crossing many disciplines and experiences, that centres on understanding and applying holistic human rights-based approaches in development work. This includes, for example,  gender specific strategies, economic, social and cultural rights activism, human rights-based programming, using international and national human rights standards and mechanisms, social mobilisation, conflict transformation and organisational development. Expertise may relate to empowerment oriented strategies or more directly human rights-related tools. By bringing together expertise across multiple disciplines, the database highlights the synergy between these disciplines and how they are necessary for a holistic application of the HRBA that is capable of transforming unequal power relations creating and perpetuating poverty.

The primary source of expertise is at a local/national level in the global South to raise awareness and use of the vast local knowledge and experience at this level and to support cross-regional exchange of Southern knowledge, approaches and experience. We believe that this is central for an empowered civil society and lasting change in poverty. This focus reflects our support of upstream efforts for change.

Information for requesting organisations: a user's guide

The database has been created for grassroots organisations, development NGOs, human rights NGOs, church-based organisations and other civil society groups, as well as international development agencies. Organisations can request support of resource persons they need for a variety of capacity-building and other events. These could include: trainings, workshops and conferences; ongoing consultancies; support in developing and finalising tools and methodologies; research studies; ideas and strategies; common experience; and relevant contacts of others redressing similar dilemmas.

By searching through our database you can find a wide variety of resource persons that correspond to your needs. But be aware, it is still evolving and will expand when organisations request necessary expertise. There are many resource persons we can connect you to that are not yet in the database. So please contact us even when you do not see the person you are looking for: equalinrights will personally help you find the right resource person for your needs.

As equalinrights pays a high value to quality and confidentiality, the database will only be available by login code. If you are interested in joining, please send an email to info@equalinrights.org with the name, contact details and a short description of your organisation. Please explain briefly how you think we can be of your service; in this way you can help us help you. Login codes will then be provided on a personal basis.

Information for (potential) resource persons

Resource persons motivated to support self-empowering learning processes, advance human rights, cooperate in the development of creative strategies for change; strengthen civil society and build the global coalition against poverty and neo-liberal domination. See further the scope of experience sought from the online form and information on the human rights-based approach on our website.

At present we are not accepting direct applications for resource persons. However, if you have suitable skills and experience and would like to be considered for our database please contact Joanne Coysh at coysh@equalinrights.org

The information for the database is gathered on a personal basis. We speak with potential resource persons about their experiences and skills. We also request nominations from them of others with whom they have worked, for a broader and more in depth understanding of precise skills, experience and communication styles.

As equalinrights highly believes in inclusion and active participation, and the fact that two heads know more than one, we offer the opportunity for resource persons to share information and experiences through an online forum. On this forum, issues raised by equalinrights, organisations and resource persons themselves will be discussed in order to advance our understanding and practice in relation to human rights-related challenges. Together we can advance the struggle for a more just and equal society without poverty!

To conclude…

Equalinrights needs your help! We are relying on you to provide us with contacts of persons with the relevant approach, knowledge and experience who you recommend as resource persons. Furthermore, we would really appreciate your critical comments and suggestions on the database. Send an email to info@equalinrights.org.
